Raw Ingredient - Risk Assessment is used by companies to undertake a documented risk assessment of each raw material or group of raw materials to identify potential risks to product safety, legality and quality.

By not conducting a raw material risk assessments, companies do not understand the potential hazards that they need to deal with.

A risk assessment shall take into account the potential for:

  1. Allergen contamination.
  2. Foreign-body risks.
  3. Microbiological contamination.
  4. Chemical contamination.
  5. Variety or species cross-contamination.
  6. Substitution or fraud.
  7. Any risks associated with raw materials which are subject to legislative control.
  8. Consideration shall also be given to the significance of a raw material to the quality of the final product.
